School Supplies & Family Fun
In a great coming together of community support, this year’s school supply drive was a huge success. Thanks to the Carolina Hurricanes — who included Families Together as a recipient of donations through their SummerFest event — as well as the congregations of Grace Lutheran and Good Shepherd Lutheran Churches who held supply drives, we were gifted with a bounty of school supplies that will help children in our program start school equipped to learn.
This year, the doling out of backpacks took on an exciting new twist as it was combined with a special family event put on by the great folks at Elevation Church/RDU that featured food, games, and outdoor fun. Also new was our “school store” where the children were allowed to “shop” and pick out just what they needed. Over 60 people came to the event, and over 50 backpacks went home with happy kids. Leftover supplies were used to fill extra backpacks that our Mentor Advocates can use throughout the year to help families with children coming into our program.
We are extremely grateful for the many hands involved in this project and we sincerely appreciate the generosity of all who gave to this important project!
